Cooking With Presto Pressure Cooker

Presto pressure cooker is a financial investment as it saves 70% less energy.  Gas used is much less than in normal cooking.

A presto pressure cooker can help you make healthy meals within record time.  Food is cooked faster and is more tender and nutritious.

These cookers come in 4, 6, and 8 quarts and pressure canners in 16 quarts and 23 quart size.  But for a family, 4 or 6 equal part is an ideal size.

Let us talk about some safety points about pressure cookers.  Since the pressure is very high such cookers, it is important o follow some safety rules to avoid mishaps.  There are marking at 1/2 and 2/3 levels.  Most cooking should be done at 2/3 level.  Do not fill foods that expand above the 1/2 mark.  Do not overfill the presto pressure cooker.

The pressure is created by he water in the cooker.  If you use the cooker dry, it will be damaged because of overheating.  Make sure that you always add liquid in the cooker.

Look through the vent hole before you close the lid.  If it is clogged, clean it before sealing the lid.

When the pressure builds inside the cooker, make sure that you release it before opening it.  Steam comes out through the vent.  If you try to open the pressure cooker before the steam is released, you may explode it and get burnt.

Let us now see how the presto pressure cooker works.  Pressure builds inside the cooker when it is closed and heat is applied.  Normally the temperature inside the cooker does not rise above 212 degrees F till the liquid is removed.  If the pressure is 15 lbs., then the temperature is 250 degrees F and it allows cooking faster.  The steam makes the meat tender.

Some recipes are specifically designed for the presto pressure cooker.  Make sure not to overfill the pressure cooker.  Add enough liquid and check the vent before locking the lid.  Heat the cooker until the pressure regulator rocks.  Then time your recipe.  If required, turn of the heat.  Rocking the cooker will allow the steam which is in excess to escape, and the food may be get burnt.

Turn off the heat when the cooking is finished and also make sure to lift the cooker off the burner.  The pressure needs to be reduced as per your recipe.  Allow the cooker to cool off normally until the ven lock releases.  If you want to cool the cooker fast, place the cooker on a sink and run cold water.

Before opening the cooker, remove the pressure regulator and lift the lid toward you.  If the lid is hard, let the cooker till the cover turns.
